Chocolates and Champagne: What a Girl Wants

It has been a long week, and she works hard. Every day she goes to a job that pays the bills but does not feed the soul. Every week the little things wear on her: the boss that doesn’t pay, the days that droll onward, and the cattiness of office gossip. You want to show her how much you care. Here is a list of “anytime” gifts for a Friday evening that help your significant other know how much you care and unwind after the work week.

A Box of Chocolates

A box of chocolates is one of the most cliche presents, but it always does the trick. A box of chocolate truffles is simple and elegant and says, “I love you.” A piece of low sugar dark chocolate is good for the heart. When paired with a glass of cabernet sauvignon, however, it is good for the soul. Chocolate makes life a little easier and a little smoother. To top it off, chocolate is an aphrodisiac which may make for an interesting evening!

A Cup of Tea

A warm matcha green tea with coconut milk and a drizzle of honey is the perfect way to wrap up a hard week on a crisp, cool autumn evening. Another great tea for unwinding is a calming chamomile with a spritz of lemon juice and a few drops of honey. A warm tea made with love is the perfect anytime gift for your sweetheart. Additionally, tea is incredibly simple to make and promotes healthy habits. Small details like a heart-shaped marshmallow or a love letter written on the paper of the teabag let your significant other know that you care deeply for them.

A Bottle of Wine

Champagne or wine are perfection after a long week. Picking a good wine is all about preference:

Red Wine
If your significant other prefers a red wine, be aware of the major players: pinot noir, cabernet sauvignon and merlot. Pinot noir is a light-bodied wine for those who like a dryer, subtler taste with a hint of sweetness. On the other end of the spectrum, there is cabernet sauvignon. Cab is a full-bodied wine, boasting bold flavors. In between the two, there is merlot which is a medium-bodied wine. It is not as bold as the cab but delivers more of a punch than the pinot noir.

White Wine
White wine tends to be sweeter than red, although there are a few dry varieties. Pinot grigio is always crisp and dry. Chardonnay is a safe bet and has a fuller body and more sweetness than a pinot grigio or a sauvignon blanc. If your sweetheart loves a sweet wine, choose a moscato or a riesling!

Although there are plenty of good wines on the cheaper side, buy a medium to high dollar wine. Many wines that are cheaper contain additives that may increase the likelihood or severity of a hangover.

Showing your partner that you love them is a daily endeavor. Every relationship requires a bit of day-to-day maintenance. Little gifts here and there help to keep your partner happy in the relationship. Surprising your partner with these gifts is the best way to keep your relationship alive and well.
