How to Make the Best Lobster Rolls
Lobster Rolls are a necessity that reminds us of sultry summers off the coast of Maine. A perfectly crafted lobster roll featuring buttery lobster, and a soft pillowy bun can put a smile on anyone’s face. Lobster Rolls are incredibly simple and only feature a few ingredients, so the devil is in the details. Follow these few tips and the best, butteriest lobster roll will be yours in minutes for you and your friends to enjoy.
The Bread
The bread should be the perfect vehicle for the succulent lobster that will not detract from the flavors and has enough structural integrity to contain the juices. One would think that a firm bread with a chewy crust would suffice. However, the best rolls for lobster rolls have a soft, pillowy texture and a buttery crust. For instance, hot dog buns are a great option. If you are in a pinch, you can also use Hawaiian rolls for a somewhat sweet effect. Croissants are a good choice, but they do not contain the same structural integrity as a hot dog or Hawaiian.
If you prefer a gluten-free option, there are many gluten-free hot dog buns to choose for. We even have our favorite recipe here for our avid bakers!
The Lobster
The better-quality lobster you choose will impact the flavor of the overall dish. We use Get Maine Lobster in our dishes because the lobster is caught straight off the shores of Maine using ethnical and sustainable practices. Then, the lobster is flash-frozen, so it retains freshness. Additionally, Get Maine Lobster keeps the lobster completely frozen during transport by using refrigerated trucks that way the lobster does not spoil during the shipping process.
The Recipe
Ingredients
4 lbs. lobster meat
8 rolls of your choosing
1/2 cup mayonnaise
dash of mustard
1 tsp salt
1 tsp garlic powder
1 tsp lemon pepper
1/2 tsp dill weed
1 cup chopped celery
Directions
Split rolls and spread mayonnaise on the inside of the bread.
In a hot skillet, toast rolls until lightly brown.
Take the 4 lbs of cooked and cooled lobster meat and mix with all of the ingredients. Adjust seasoning to preference and put a generous amount on each roll.
Mixing It Up
If you are not afraid of breaking tradition, mix up your lobster rolls by combining the recipe with other famous sandwiches. For example, a lobster banh mi is both interesting and delicious and requires the addition of pickled carrots, cucumber, a sliver of fresh jalapeno, and cilantro. Take lobster rolls to Korea and sprinkle some kim chi! The sky is the limit and the world is your oyster…or lobster!
